Storing Broccoli

storing broccoli

In the winter months when broccoli is widely available and very inexpensive, we are all tempted to buy and eat as much as we can. I’m here to tell you that broccoli freezes very well and you can use fresh broccoli all through the year!
To do this, buy as much broccoli as you wish while it lasts in the markets. Wash thoroughly, break into florets and leave it out on a kitchen cloth to dry as much as possible. This will be done within an hour’s time.
Then you can proceed to fill it into resealable zip bags and freeze it. I like to freeze it in a single layer, since it is easy to take out as much as you want without thawing the entire bag. Make sure to use as much as is removed, and avoid refreezing thawed broccoli. Enjoy broccoli all year long!
