Ingredients:
- 1 cup chana dal
- 1 cup mixed dal (I use urad, moong and little toor dal)
- 2 sprigs curry leaves
- 1 inch piece ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
- 4-5 spicy green chillies (adjust according to your spice preference)
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp haldi powder
- 2-3 tbsp rice flour
- salt to taste
Method:
- Wash all the dals together and soak for 3-4hours.
- Drain the water and add to a mixer jar, pulse until coarsely ground.
Note: There should be some dal left whole and some ground, and remove to a bowl.
- In a pestle and mortar, pound the chillies and ginger until fine.
Tip: Add this to the dal mixture, along with chopped curry leaves.
- Add salt to taste, red chilli powder, haldi powder.
- Add 2-3 tbsp rice flour and mix to form a dough.
- Shape the dough into flat rounds and deep fry on medium low heat until crispy on all sides.
Note: Make sure to make them quite flat, as they will puff up on frying.
- This can also be done in appe pan, adding a little oil to each.
