Ingredients for Making Easy Homestyle Chicken Curry
- 500gm curry-cut chicken pieces
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 large onions, sliced thinly
- 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste, or 7-8 garlic cloves+ 1 inch ginger grated
- 3-4 green chillies, chopped (according to spice preference)
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 2 tsp garam masala
- 1 tbsp red chilli powder
- handful of coriander leaves, chopped
Method for Making Easy Homestyle Chicken Curry
- Wash the chicken well and keep aside.
- Heat oil, add onions and fry till they turn golden brown.
- Add ginger garlic paste, green chillies and fry till the raw smell goes.
- Add in the chicken, sliced tomato, red chilli powder, garam masala and salt. Stir fry on a medium flame until the chicken meat turns white on the outside.
Note: The cooking time suggested is 1.5-2 hrs on a low flame, to ensure that the spices penetrate into the chicken and it is flavourful till the bone.
- Boil 2 cups of water and add it to the chicken. Cover and cook for 1.5hrs on a low flame. Keep adding water as and when the water evaporates.
- At the end, adjust water according to your liking of consistency.
- Garnish with coriander leaves, and serve hot alongside rice or paratha.
Note: Do not cook in a pressure cooker, as it will only cook the chicken but not make it flavourful.
Tip: It tastes better the next day, so consider cooking it a day before and refrigerating it.
