Jowar Cheese Sticks

Before you begin

Time required: 15 minutes to mix, 15 minutes to bake
Equipment needed: Mixing bowl, baking tray, parchment paper, Oven
Previous day Prep: None
Storage: 3-5 days at room temperature in an airtight container

Jowar sticks

Ingredients

  • 1 /2 cup jowar atta
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat atta
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil/ghee/melted butter
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (til)
  • 1 cheese cube, grated
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp Roasted jeera powder
  • salt to taste

Method

  1. Add the jowar atta, salt, and sesame seeds to a wide mixing bowl and drizzle in the oil.
  2. Mix together with your fingers until the mixture resembles wet sand. It should clump together when pressed.
  3. At this point, add in the grated cheese, red chilli powder, jeera powder and drizzle in water as much as is required to form a firm dough.
  4. Roll the dough between 2 plastic sheets to the thickness of a paratha.
  5. Prick across with a fork and cut to your desired shapes. You can also use a cookie cutter to make fun shapes. Here I have cut into sticks.
  6. Arrange these on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake in the oven at 180 degrees C, until light brown around the edges. This will take about 15 minutes
  8. Let it cool down before storing in an airtight container.

Note: This makes a good snack for kids’ school alongside some fruit
